Legal Counsel
Your Responsibilities At C&A
- Provide legal advice to the executive management team
- Ensuring compliance with all legal requirements and provisions as well as all applicable internal company policies. Assist in the preparation and implementation of C&A legal policies.
- Supporting and providing legal advice to the French property team in the management of the company's store portfolio. Drafting of the corresponding contracts and/or addenda and especially commercial leases.
- Managing legal matters related to the retail business in France (i.e. consumer related matters, environmental law, labeling, launching of new products, marketing campaigns and raffles, negotiation and implementation of all kinds of agreements with third parties related to the day-to-day business, etc.) and giving general legal advice to different internal departments including finance, marketing, selling, e-commerce, working together to minimize the company’s legal risks.
- Managing all data protection-related matters, supervising compliance with the regulations, and being the first point of contact between the company, authorities, and employees.
- Monitoring and directing a compliance management system.
- Manage all insurance files for France, liaise with the maintenance team and the shops
- Preparing all necessary corporate organizational documents, powers of attorney, and corporate resolutions and supervising compliance with all corporate legal requirements, annual accounts filings, and keeping and updating statutory books and other similar documents for the companies.
- Maintaining effective contact with the Head of Legal, the European Legal Centre of Expertise as well as with the local legal managers of other countries and markets, working together in different projects/matters to ensure the best legal solution to meet business objectives.
- Coordination and supervision of legal advisors for internal legal requests, managing efficiency resources and budget.
- Lead, mentor, and develop junior team members.
- Represent the company in dealings with the authorities, lessors, and other third parties.
What We Expect Of You
A. Our ideal candidate should fit perfectly with our values, but apart from that, you have:
Education: A degree in Law and ideally complemented with a Master of Laws (LLM). Legal qualification in France.
Certified DPO
- Experience: Approximately 10 years’ experience. Preferably in a similar position in a multinational company in the retail sector or in a law firm, with experience in corporate, real estate, consumer law, and some of the areas within the scope of responsibility described above. Knowledge of French commercial leases is required.
Languages: French and a high level of English (written and verbal) are essential.
Workplace: Courbevoie, with a flexible mobile working arrangement and availability to travel.
- Knowledge of Law may be general, although a deeper knowledge and experience in corporate legal advice, retail, and real estate is required.
- International experience will be valued. Experience in data protection will also be highly valued.
- Experience in the drafting and negotiation of lease contracts for business premises both in shopping centres and city centres, and therefore of the property development resulting from those contracts, construction contracts, contractors, as well as urban and commercial planning licenses.
- Experience in commercial relations and commercial agreements with commercial intermediaries and modern distribution chains, in addition to a good knowledge of consumer regulations and corporate law.
- A high level of ethics and commitment to the values and principles of C&A.
- Proactive, business oriented and creative approach and not just being a legal adviser.
- Have leadership and relationship skills both internally and externally.

· You will be a professional with poise, character, and great internal and external negotiating skills.
